Volker Rein is a social scientist specialized on developments and policy in education and training systems as well as on skills requirements in Germany, in Europe and in the US. He is working as a senior research associate at the Department of Professional Learning and Teaching of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in Bonn, Germany.
He has long term experiences in research and development work as well as in advisory work focusing on the intersection of VET and academic Higher Education and on qualifications frameworks in Germany and the European Union. With this respect he currently carries out a research on the compatibility potential between VET and Higher Education in competence orientation and accomplishes a benchmark research on Short Higher Education (focus: Associate Degrees) in the USA.
He holds a Ph. D. and an M.A. in Social Sciences, Free University of Berlin.
