Economic system in which the production, distribution and consumption of wealth strives to sustainable development (increasing energy and resource efficiency, reducing carbon emissions and pollution, protecting biodiversity and ecosystems) to improve human well-being, limit environmental risks and preserve natural assets.

Comment

This term has three dimensions:

  • economic: resource efficiency and sustainable consumption and production patterns;
  • environmental: preservation of natural capital, investment in natural resources and fight against climate change;
  • social: improvement of population’s well-being and health.
