Lifelong guidance

Cedefop’s lifelong guidance project reviews Member States’ progress in implementing the Council resolutions on lifelong guidance (2004, 2008). To this end, Cedefop carries out research, organises knowledge sharing events and cooperates with the European Commission and Member States through the European lifelong guidance policy network (ELGPN). : Youth Opportunities Initiative a Commission's proposal (23/01/2012)
: Press release - The involvement of employers and trade unions is crucial to achieve an open labour market that values all forms of learning (28/11/2011); The common European tools for education and training - such as Europass, the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and the European credit system for vocational education and training (ECVET) - will make it easier for citizens to pursue learning throughout their lives, and to document their skills and knowledge in a form which is recognised by employers and the labour market across Europe.

: Joint seminar on youth employment highlights what EU agencies can do to help (01/07/2011); On 30 June four EU agencies held a joint seminar at the European Parliament on the all too topical issue of youth employment. The agencies, Cedefop, Eurofound, ETF and EU-OSHA, each presented their work, which ranged across several related topics.
: Call for papers: Learning later in life – uncovering the potential of investing in an ageing workforce, Brussels, 21-22 September 2011 (19/05/2011); Cedefop and the European Commission are jointly organising a two-day international seminar on learning later in life and the impact of investing in an ageing workforce.

: Rising importance of guidance for ageing workers (05/10/2010); Spirited debate on an issue that is of critical importance to Europe’s labour market was the hallmark of Cedefop’s workshop on guidance for ageing workers (September 30-October 1). The workshop aimed to identify the best ways to offer career guidance to ageing workers, who constitute an increasingly important share of the workforce.

What are their best strategies of keeping up with changes in their job, or taking up a new job? A new Cedefop publication - and a forthcoming workshop – seek answers to these questions.
: Call for papers: Guidance and counselling for ageing workers (31/05/2010); Cedefop is planning a two-day international workshop on guidance and counselling for ageing workers, to be held in Thessaloniki on 30 September and 1 October 2010. The aim of the workshop is to bring together an international forum of researchers and experts in order to gather the latest insights on guidance and counselling for ageing workers and to learn from best practices. Cedefop intends to publish the best contributions in a conference reader.
: A snapshot of progress in lifelong guidance (27/05/2010); Access to success: Lifelong guidance for better learning and working in Europe takes stock of how guidance policies and systems, and the practice of lifelong guidance and counselling, are developing across the European Union. The organisation of the booklet reflects the four priorities of the 2008 Council Resolution on integrating guidance into lifelong learning.
