Cedefop's first policy learning forum, which will focus on the definition and writing of learning outcomes for vocational education and training (VET) qualifications, takes place this week (24-25 September) in Thessaloniki.
A main priority for Cedefop is to support Member States and social partners in further developing and improving vocational education and training and lifelong learning policies and practices.
‘Through systematic research over many years, Cedefop has been analysing how qualifications are awarded and used across Europe and how they support the needs of individuals for lifelong learning, recognition and employability,’ the Centre’s Deputy Director told a European Training Foundation (ETF) conference on making better qualifications, at the European Parliament in Brussels.
Despite public concerns regarding the diminishing value of educational qualifications, acquiring higher qualifications and skills is still the best bet for getting a job, experts said at an event on labour market opportunities for youth, in Thessaloniki.
Some 140 experts and officials from 27 countries, the European Commission and international organisations exchanged views on the shift to learning outcomes and its impact at the two-day Cedefop conference in Thessaloniki (21 and 22 November).
