Establishing a European Institute for Gender Equality

The purpose of the proposed Institute is to provide technical support both to the Member States and to the Community institutions, especially the Commission, thereby furthering the Community policy for gender equality. In this connection, it will collect, analyse and disseminate objective, reliable and comparable data at Community level, develop appropriate methodological tools for incorporating the gender perspective into Community policies generally, facilitate the exchange of good practice, encourage dialogue between stakeholders, spread knowledge and awareness, and raise the profile of this Community policy among the citizens of Europe.
