In order to ensure sound change management, the Commission has conducted 18 sectoral studies that seek to identify emerging competences and future skills needs.

By applying a common foresight scenario-based approach, these studies provide options both for anticipating and adapting to change.

The reports are published as part of a series of forward-looking sector studies on New Skills and New Jobs in the frame of the project Comprehensive Sectoral Analysis of Emerging Competences and Economic Activities in the European Union. 

The studies are commissioned under the European Community Programme for Employment and Social Solidarity - PROGRESS (2007-2013) managed by the Directorate-General for Employment, social affairs and equal opportunities of the European Commission. It was established to financially support the implementation of the objectives of the European Union in the employment and social affairs area, as set out in the Social Agenda, and thereby contribute to the achievement of the Lisbon Strategy goals in these fields.
