Building on the skill forecasts: experts discussed Cedefop’s methods and applications with a view to further enhancing their quality and relevance

Cedefop’s work on skills has contributed significantly to the Agenda for New Skills and Jobs, one of the flagship initiatives of the European Union’s new strategy for education and training, Europe 2020. But how are the forecasts used in the Member States? An in what ways can European skill forecasting be improved?

The technical conference organised by the Centre’s skills team held on 17-18 February in Thessaloniki brought together an international forum of researchers and experts in labour market needs and skill supply forecasting. They examined the consistency of Cedefop’s methods and tools and compared them with various national approaches, proposed some adjustments and provided ideas for their future development. They also agreed that reliable data are the key limitation in this process.

The proceedings, presentations and pictures of the conference are available at the conference website.
