The law of 5 September 2018 on the freedom to choose one’s professional future creates for the first time the possibility for French companies to open an internal apprenticeship training centre.
Funding is a major issue in participation in continuing education and training. The German Government decided to expand public funding for VET students who want to acquire higher VET qualifications, i.e. VET at tertiary education level. The amendments of the Upgrading Training Assistance Act (AFBG) will come into force on 1st of August 2020.

Several recent activities designed to strengthen gender equality in Swedish education have been in progress. The Swedish National Agency for Education has proposed changes to the curricula – including the curriculum for upper secondary VET – and reported on projects intended to increase gender equality during work-based learning. Both the proposed changes and the report were presented in June 2019.
A total of 10 new VET school networks were set up by the National Centre for TVET Development between April 2019 and March 2021 to strengthen institutional capacity and develop the quality assurance culture in initial VET.
New six-month apprenticeship programmes have become available in Romania for low-qualified people and for those who left school without any qualification. The programmes mainly support integration in the labour market and do not require prior formal qualifications.
On 22 November 2019 stakeholders discussed the developments in adult education in the national forum ‘I work and learn’. Topics included among others: learning for employees at the workplace, involvement of employers in adult education, good practice examples in providing learning at the workplace, challenges and solutions for quality assurance in non-formal education.
On 21 of May 2019, the Ministry of education and the president of WorldSkills Luxembourg launched ‘Skills United’, a new joint campaign promoting vocational training and skills competitions in trades and professions in Luxembourg.
