Formal education is just one of several ways of acquiring knowledge, with many individual skills acquired through other paths such as working in a profession, voluntary work, or leisure activities. At the same time, the labour market today is changing rapidly and new professions are emerging, for which individuals acquire knowledge on their own or while working in a company.
In a meeting at the headquarters of the European Federation for Welding (EWF) in Lisbon on 27 January, international and welding sector experts discussed the latest vocational education and training (VET) developments and reflected on future scenarios in relation to the European tools and their use in the sector.

Guidelines for upper secondary VET programmes and Guidelines for higher VET programmes serve as a framework for the development of VET programmes. They define the objectives, curriculum structure, duration, and completion for each education level; they are also the basis for preparing, quality assessment and adoption of new or renewed education programmes.
