The international seminar, organised jointly by the OECD and Cedefop, aims at disseminating methods in particular the Job Requirement Approach (JRA) for measuring the use of generic work skills. The JRA has been applied successfully in national contexts and is to be included in the new international survey of adult skills which will be run as part of the OECDs Programme for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). Measuring the type and level of an extensive range of generic skills used in jobs with the JRA in an internationally comparative survey is totally innovative. Therefore, in order to test the feasibility of using this approach, a JRA pilot study was carried out in Australia, France, Greece and Korea.

The results of this path-breaking pilot study will be presented at the seminar as well as the JRA methodology more generally. In addition, the seminar will present other national experiences with the JRA method and discuss the policy-and research-relevance of the results it generates.
