On 11 December 2018, the second edition of a vocational education and training status review was published for the general public and all parties concerned.
Sectoral professional committees (SPC) are advisory bodies formed to ensure cooperation between all VET stakeholders. Assessment and recognition of competences acquired through formal, non-formal and informal learning is a significant factor helping people enter the labour market. In Lithuania, competence assessment is a distinct process separated from vocational education and training (VET) provision and performed by accredited competence assessment institutions. Currently 31 assessment centres are in place.

After a review of vocational training programmes, over 300 that were outdated or not active have been removed from the national register. To improve the quality and relevance of vocational training, they will be replaced by modular programmes with a more flexible implementation structure.
In December 2017 the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania consented to the draft recasting of the law on vocational education and training. The draft law introduces fundamental changes into the VET system to align it with the needs of the economy.
