Careful use of anticipation exercise results required for successful response in changing skill needs

Cedefop expert Alena Zukersteinova attended an international seminar on qualified labour force as a driver of competitiveness, in Prague on 1 October. In her speech, she stressed the importance of partnership and stakeholder cooperation as well as the necessity to use a combination of various methods to achieve robust and reliable results.

The main aim of the seminar was to present and discuss good practices from other Member States in anticipation of labour market needs and promoting work-based education by bringing together schools and businesses. Experience from other EU countries will feed into the current domestic discussion on the reform of the Czech educational system.

Ms Zukersteinova said: 'Responding successfully to changing skill needs requires careful use of anticipation exercise results in discussions between various stakeholders involved in developing or implementing skills policies.'

The event, organised jointly by the Lower Chamber of the Czech Parliament and the European Commission representation in the Czech Republic, is expected to have a significant impact given the high-level representation of all relevant actors. The seminar resulted in a set of recommendations to be addressed to the government.
