Skills Development Scotland has developed the Skills action plan for rural Scotland with the Scottish Government and other partners. The 2019-21 plan is part of the Scottish Government’s aim of providing education, training, and re-skilling to ensure a highly skilled workforce for the rural economy. Scotland’s Enterprise and Skills Strategic Board is tasked with coordinating all efforts in Scotland to improve skills and enterprise, with a view to increasing Scotland’s productivity and economic growth.
Design
The 12 institutes of technology (IoTs) will specialise in UK level 4 and 5 (EQF level 5) technical training in STEM subjects, including digital skills, advanced manufacturing and engineering. These institutes are designed as collaborative ventures between universities, further education colleges and employers. Leading employers including Airbus, GE Aviation, the Met Office, Microsoft, Nissan and Siemens are set to take part and will be involved in the design and delivery of the curricula, as well as the leadership and governance of the institutes. Employers will also provide seconded staff, programme equipment and additional investment.
Cedefop has released new insights on skills and jobs in seven European countries. After several years of development, the agency presents first results of this new type of labour market intelligence, based on information from more than 30 million online job vacancies collected in the second half of 2018 in Czechia, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy and the UK.
Skills advisory panels (SAPs) are being formed to source information about skills needs and labour market requirements at local level across England.
