Prepara is a protection mechanism, in force since 2011, introduced as an urgent measure for the critical economic situation arising in Spain since the beginning of the crisis in 2008. It is aimed at people who have exhausted their unemployment benefits and combines retraining measures and professional reinsertion programmes with financial support.
Mascil (mathematics and science for life) is a project financed by the European Union’s seventh framework programme with the principle aim to promote enquiry-based mathematics and science teaching in primary and secondary schools, connect it with the world of work and encourage young Europeans’ interest in careers related to science and technology.
The new law aims to bring the education system up to new international challenges. It intends to breathe new life into the vocational education and training option, making it more attractive, provide flexible pathways, and reduce early leaving from education and training.
In an interview with the Spanish daily, published on 20 April, Cedefop Director James Calleja said that vocational education and training (VET) in Spain needs to be closer to labour market needs.
’Your first EURES job’ is a preparatory action under the EU budget (2011-13) to help young Europeans aged 18 to 30 find work in other EU Member States and assist employers in filling bottleneck vacancies caused by domestic market failure. It is one of the actions in the Europe 2020 flagship initiative ‘Youth on the move’ and part of the ‘Youth opportunities initiative’.

AULA is the most important annual global appointment, held in Spain, related to education and training, and the only one promoted by the Ministry of Education and Culture and Sport. In 2013, it was held in February in Madrid. It coincided with the vocational training olympics, WORLDSKILLS SPAIN 2013, the tertiary education studies fair, foro de Postgrado, the international educational equipment show, INTERDIDAC, and the international congress of educational marketing, EDUKETING. Together, these events shaped the first education week in Spain.
The basis for a dual system was set in November 2012 together with further development of the training and apprenticeship contract in the legislation on labour market reform.
With a budget of nearly EUR 42 million, a statewide training programme is now being implemented for its second year addressed to improve the skills and employability of young people under 30.
The Avanza programme (Plan Avanza) supports learning and training activities in telecommunications, information and communication technologies (ICT) providing participants with high-level knowledge, qualification and internationally recognised training in ICT. The programme is meant for professionals and employees working in SMEs and its objectives are to consolidate knowledge of new technologies, encourage use of IT services, support teleworking, increase competitiveness and improve businesses´ productivity by using specific training and sale-promotion techniques.
