Cedefop has been investigating the potential of skills based pathways to refugee protection, in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development.
At the invitation of the Romanian EU Presidency, Cedefop presented its activities in the area of upskilling pathways for adults for the first time at a Council of the European Union Education Committee meeting, on 8 April, in Brussels.
Repeating a successful formula from 2016, participants in Cedefop’s Second policy learning forum on vocational education and training (VET) teachers and trainers discussed a way forward with new ideas for professional development, in Thessaloniki, on 9 and 10 April.
Cedefop, in cooperation with the Lifelong Learning Platform, is organising a policy forum to explore the potential of community lifelong learning centres as one-stop shops for preventing young people at risk and early school leavers from disconnecting. The event will be hosted by the Romanian EU Presidency in its permanent representation to the EU on 29 May in Brussels.

Cedefop’s ReferNet network has prepared national reports on guidance and outreach for the upskilling of vulnerable groups.
Brussels’ first counselling and guidance centre Cité des métiers was opened on 23 April 2018, in the presence of the European Employment Commissioner, Marianne Thyssen, and several ministers from the Brussels Region. Based on a multi-partner and bilingual initiative, this one-stop shop for life-long guidance and counselling is designed to improve access to all types of life-long learning, including vocational education and training (VET).
Cedefop’s new handbook supports the transfer and adaptation of career development tools used in guidance, early school leaving prevention, employment services, youth centres and other organisations.
