High Performance Workplaces

Because People Mean Business

This major conference will examine what constitutes a high performing workplace - from common sense, traditional business practices to innovative, creative schemes for high levels of involvement which reward good performance by employees. It will feature a research paper which examines the characteristics of a high performance workplace and will also look at practical examples of good practice.

The main objective of the event is to raise the profile of the concept of high performance workplaces, agree a common understanding of its key elements and demonstrate how it can contribute to productivity, growth and the Lisbon goals.

High performance workplaces come in a variety of shapes and sizes - from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to large multinational organisations - but there are some common features which are deployed to achieve commercial success. These include high levels of employee involvement together with good human resource practices and good reward and commitment practices. These are demonstrated through good management skills, commitment to flexible working policies, innovative reward schemes, information and consultation of employees and a strong focus by the organisation on skills development as well as an awareness of diversity and a good gender balance throughout the organisation.
