The EYEO-European Year for Equal Opportunities was designed to raise awareness of everyone's right to a life free from discrimination, based on the extensive body of rights and obligations set out in the EC directives, and of the need to develop EU and Member State tools to promote real equality.

434 actions were implemented across the 30 participating countries which generated around 1 600 outputs.

The most important factor in the EYEO's success was the political commitment of the Member States, the European institutions and civil society.
