United States / EU Round Table skills for growth and jobs in the economic recovery and beyond

The Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities of the European Commission (DG EMPL), and the US Department of Labor are organising a Roundtable entitled "Skills for Growth and Jobs in the Economic Recovery and Beyond". The event will take place in Washington D.C. on 28 and 29 May 2009.

Both in the United States and the European Union, skills are considered as critically important to spur immediate economic recovery and address the labour market and skill needs for sustained economic competitiveness and growth.

The roundtable will begin with a discussion on the state of EU and US labour markets in the economic downturn, overall economic recovery efforts in the EU and US, and specific workforce development strategies that are being developed and implemented to respond to the economic downturn.

The second day of the roundtable will continue by focusing on the key contribution that policy and practice related to anticipating and matching labour market needs and skills demands can make to respond to the challenges raised by the economic crisis.

Ms. Alena Zukersteinova, project manager at Cedefop will be participating in this event.
