The international conference School success, school failure and early school leaving is organised by the research group Globalisation, Education and Social Policies (GEPS) from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in the framework of the ABJOVES project.

Conference theme
Raising levels of school success is a key goal of every education system worldwide. Educational success is presented, in the knowledge society, as a prerequisite for social inclusion at an individual level, and for the advancement of the society as a whole. And while there is no doubt that education alone is not always enough to ensure such a progress, it is also true that it is absolutely necessary in order to make this change possible.

In this context, this conference reflects on the processes of school success, school failure and/or early school leaving that feature contemporary education systems, considering political, institutional and subjective factors. Each one of these three dimensions, which constitute the topics of the conference, can be addressed separately or simultaneously. Likewise, contributions can focus on different analytical levels (macro, meso, and micro), as well as on different actors (including technical and political staff, teachers, and students) and on different education levels (both compulsory and post-compulsory).

Cedefop's Early leaving from education and training project
