Cedefop participated in the ‘European gathering of Second Chance Schools (E2O) on tackling early school leaving and youth unemployment’ that took place at the University of Deusto in Bilbao on 18-19 of April 2018.

The event was organised by the Spanish network of Second Chance schools which is a member of the European Association of Cities for Second Chance Schools (E2C). 380 participants, of whom many young people from second chance schools, attended the event, as well as national, regional and local stakeholders from Spain, Portugal and France. Under the aim of strengthening the collaboration in the Mediterranean region, a convention was signed between the national networks of Spain and France.

The generation of synergies and cooperation between schools and other organisations, the accreditation of E2Os and the mobility of students were some of the key issues discussed. The meeting in Bilbao has allowed, above all, listening to young people who defend their second chance in education.

Cedefop expert Dr. Irene Psifidou discussed ‘Perspectives of a Euro-Mediterranean cooperation of E2O’ and presented the VET toolkit for tackling early leaving as a communication platform and practical tool for stakeholders involved in second chance measures.
