Gender equality and modernising labour law, which represent the cornerstones of the revision of the European social model, played a major role in policy developments and official reports on working conditions in Europe in 2006. The task of modernising labour law, in particular, ensured that the flexicurity debate took a central place in policy discussions. Another important milestone is the recently concluded framework agreement on harassment and violence between the European social partners and the European Commission, for which the ground work was laid in 2006.

The fourth Annual review of working conditions in the EU 20062007 examines four key dimensions of working conditions and quality of work and employment: career and employment, health and well-being at work, skills development and worklife balance.
