Forty years’ contribution to vocational education and training (VET) in Europe, twenty years in Greece: Cedefop celebrates its double jubilee with a festive event on 11 June at Thessaloniki‘s concert hall, including the opening of an exhibition on its history, and a conference the next day.

Friends and stakeholders, Commission representatives, Governing Board members and present and former staff have been invited to the festive event.

Cedefop's conference on 12 June, under its anniversary motto 'old roots for new routes,' will look at how VET has developed into its present role and discuss its future orientations up to 2020.

Cedefop’s own role at the interface between education and training and the labour market will also be up for discussion: how will the agency contribute to modernising education and training systems and designing European policies? And how will it interact with its key stakeholders, namely the European Commission, EU Member States and social partners? The conference will be opened by the European Commission’s Director General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, Michel Servoz.

We'll be posting live on social media and you can watch the conference via live streaming here.

The anniversary exhibition charts the political and social circumstances which led to Cedefop’s establishment in 1975, and the events that have shaped its work over the past four decades - first in Berlin and then in Thessaloniki.

Through images, texts and artefacts, the exhibition illustrates Cedefop’s eventful history and the main themes of its work, including vocational education and training research, policy analysis and support for mobility. Following its inauguration at the 11 June event, it will be on display at Cedefop’s premises as of 15 June.
