Eurostat and the European commission are organising a conference entitled "Statistics for policymaking: Europe 2020". Please see below for details.

The aim of the conference is to bring together politicians and statisticians in a dialogue about how to shape statistics underpinning policy making and political decision making. How should indicators be defined so that they measure what politicians want them to measure? How should politicians and statisticians cooperate in order to get the best possible outcome on both sides?

The conference will focus on the role of statistics in policymaking and political decision-making, using the Europe 2020 strategy as a case in point. It will discuss the role statistics played in the formulation of the strategy and the role it will have in its implementation. This will be done in a broader framework of statistics used for evidence based decision making where the statistical support for the Europe 2020 strategy is a concrete example.
