Cedefop has started a project to investigate how vocational education and training (VET) can effectively contribute to creating labour mobility opportunities for adult refugees.
According to an opinion survey on vocational education and training (VET) carried out by Cedefop, around 64% of respondents who studied VET in Greece found their first long-term job within a year, compared to 49% of those who studied general education. However, education in Greece at upper secondary level is dominated by the Panhellenic exams; they will decide to which university a student will go and what they will study.
According to Cedefop’s new estimate, 128 million adults (about 46%) in the EU, Iceland and Norway are in potential need of upskilling and/or reskilling. How to reach out to this huge pool of talent and address their comprehensive needs through coordinated and coherent approaches was the central theme of Cedefop’s 7th Brussels seminar on 25 June.
At a policy forum on the role of community lifelong learning centres (CLLCs) organised jointly by Cedefop and the Lifelong Learning Platform (LLLP) at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the EU, in Brussels on 29 May, Cedefop presented the new edition of its vocational education and training (VET) toolkit for tackling early leaving from education and training.
The second joint Cedefop/European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) policy learning forum on upskilling pathways discussed ways of developing such pathways for adults, in Brussels on 20 and 21 May.
Cedefop contributed to the organisation of the 3rd Validation of prior learning biennale, in Berlin on 7 and 8 May. The event gathered 300 participants from 40 countries to discuss how to make policies on validation work.
At the invitation of the Romanian EU Presidency, Cedefop presented its activities in the area of upskilling pathways for adults for the first time at a Council of the European Union Education Committee meeting, on 8 April, in Brussels.
Repeating a successful formula from 2016, participants in Cedefop’s Second policy learning forum on vocational education and training (VET) teachers and trainers discussed a way forward with new ideas for professional development, in Thessaloniki, on 9 and 10 April.
