The Commission’s proposals for EU programmes to start next year under the new 2007-2013 financial framework prioritise policies for growth and economic progress. The revised package, which sets out details of funds for each programme and legal acts necessary for their implementation, is a major step before the programmes can be effectively launched.
Learning acquired outside schools whether at the workplace, at leisure or even at home is increasingly becoming an accepted route toward acquiring formal qualifications.
DG EAC issued a press release regarding the Evaluation results of the Europass project, and acknowledging Cedefops work.
Cedefop is at present carrying out extensive work on how older workers learn, particularly on the neglected issue of how to retrain and retain workers nearing retirement age – and what motivates people to keep working past it. An international workshop on ‘Working at old age – Emerging theories and empirical perspectives on ageing and work’ is to be held at Cedefop, Thessaloniki, on 29-30 September 2008.
During the EuroSkills competition held in Rotterdam on 18-20 September, Cedefop experts contributed to an open workshop, organised by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Education and Culture, to present the various EU tools and initiatives now being implemented in cooperation with Member States.
The findings of a forthcoming Cedefop-Eurofound study, The role of collective bargaining in the development of continuing vocational training, which covers the EU-27 and Norway, will be discussed at a joint seminar organised at Cedefop with Eurofound, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, on 9-10 February.
A recent series of Cedefop publications, to be presented at an upcoming conference on lifelong learning and employability (Thessaloniki 5-6 October) examines how qualifications are established, evaluated and renewed in todays economy.
