The dual vocational training system is an essential foundation for the innovation society, and has always been a strength of the German-speaking countries. Despite the fact that it is recognized as an international model, this system currently finds itself under pressure from a number of sources: private industry is less and less willing to provide training, and certain trends at the European level run counter to the dual system tradition; moreover, as a result of more demanding job requirements it is increasingly uncommon for unskilled young people to gain access to training. Against this background, the question arises as to whether the dual system of vocational education will be able to survive in the future.
In this volume, prominent representatives of the political, academic and administrative spheres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland discuss the current situation, possibilities of reform and scenarios for vocational education in the future, offering a comprehensive overview of this highly topical issue.Jens U.
