Luxembourg - accompanying young people through professional mentoring

ReferNet Luxembourg

Career preparation and guidance become crucial in times when school to work transition becomes more complex and difficult. Roles of non-familial adults in the lives of at-risk children are beneficial for increasing resilience and success in the face of adversity.

It is in this context that CPOS (Centre de psychologie et d’orientation scolaires) and MCMC (Maison du coaching, mentoring et consulting) have launched a pilot mentoring project called M-ProJ.

Mentor programmes connect people who have specific skills and knowledge (mentors) with individuals (mentees) who need or want the same skills and advantages to progress in work, skill level, or school performance. The programme M-ProJ specialises in youth mentoring, and consists of accompanying secondary school students with mentors from the world of work throughout the school year to support them in their decision-making ability and prepare them for their future careers.

The general idea is that a tutor individually accompanies a student. Besides individual meetings that take place about six times a year, pupils can also participate in workshops. According to a recent satisfaction survey, young mentees were able to clarify their study or their professional projects much better. Due to this success, the project will continue in the coming school year.
