Poland: monitoring the careers of secondary school graduates

The monitoring system was developed by the Educational Research Institute in cooperation with the education ministry and the developers of similar solutions operating in higher education.

Content and methodology

Apart from information on the education and professional careers of secondary school graduates, the monitoring system will offer reliable information on graduates’ employment conditions and remuneration by type of vocational programme, as well as their transition to tertiary education.

The monitoring is based on the administrative data from the Education data system, the Social Insurance Institution, the Integrated Information Network on Science and Higher Education – POL-on, and district examination boards.

Information on graduates’ careers will be presented annually in a standardised way, enabling year by year comparison. It will include the data of those students who graduated one, two and five years before the monitoring year.

Implementing bodies

The minister for education has the overall responsibility for the monitoring. The Information Technology Centre for education, an organisation operating under the Ministry of Education and Science, is responsible for acquiring and processing the collected administrative data. The Educational Research Institute will analyse the anonymised data and compile the results.

Outcomes and benefits

The results of the monitoring will be published in form of individual school reports and through publicly available statistics and studies.

Employers will be able to use this information to update and better adapt graduate employment policies. At local and national levels, this information will be used in education-related policy-making to adjust the education structure and curricula to changing socioeconomic conditions. The data will be used to improve forecasts of demand for professions and qualifications.

Access to evidence-based and reliable information will improve the quality and image of the vocational education system. The first results will be available at the end of 2021.
