Reaching out to practitioners, guiding visitors through our services.
The establishment of decentralised agencies of the EU was meant as a statement that Europe is not just Brussels or Luxembourg.  The intention was to create closer links to citizens, and to engage specialists in the relevant fields more directly.

In this spirit, Cedefop has recently organised several visits requested by groups of specialists from outside Greece; but also meetings intended to provide the local community with more information and an opportunity to discuss how European developments are relevant to day-to-day work in VET.

A recent example of the latter was the seminar on skills and guidance last December. Over 100 guidance counsellors from all over Greece participated in this seminar, in which we not only highlighted our work but also invited representatives of the main national organisations to make presentations that linked national with European developments. The response was enthusiastic, with much lively discussion and requests for more such seminars to be organised on a regular basis.

Other recent visits have included a Taiwanese delegation that came to learn about the European Qualifications Framework ; a Swedish group from the National Agency for Advanced Vocational Education, which was similarly interested in the EQF and the evaluation of skills; representatives of a Finnish vocational college, who were particularly interested in Europass;  and delegations from Switzerland and Serbia - countries that take EU developments into account in planning  their own systems - who  requested an overall picture  of Cedefop's activities and of European policy in the field.
