About Portugal

In recent years, economic growth of Portugal was moderate, only slightly above the EU average. Its unemployment rate has been gradually decreasing and is actually close to EU average. Plans are afoot in Portugal to improve the operation of the labour market, including the skills supply system. There is on-going work to modernise VET so that it is better able to meet the skills demand at both the initial and continuing education level.

By 2030, total employment in Portugal will increase, driven by new jobs creation in administrative, ICT and energy supply services. The occupations expected to create most new jobs openings are office associate professionals, office professionals and researchers & engineers. When it comes to total job openings (including replacements for vacated jobs), 4 out of 5 will require either high or medium level qualifications.
