By adopting the own initiative report of Ona Jukneviciene (ALDE, Lithuania) on jobs and their productivity and their contribution to economic growth", the European Parliament recognised the importance of free movement of workers in the EU and calls on Member States to re-examine the transition period applicable in new Member States in view of eliminating all obstacles to workers' mobility. It is also calling on Member States to: tackle the problem f illegal work, which has negative repercussions on social protection systems, social cohesion and competitiveness and productivity; modernise tax regimes for welfare so that they are adapted to the structural modifications of the labour market and help develop a qualified labour force that is trained and flexible.
