Cedefop opinion survey on vocational education and training in Europe: country reports

This thematic perspective provides a contextualised interpretation of the results of the Cedefop opinion survey on vocational education and training through country reports prepared by Cedefop’s ReferNet network. They are part of the series Cedefop ReferNet thematic perspectives and complement other general information on VET systems by country.

Evidence on citizen perceptions of VET is scarce, particularly when comparing VET perceptions to views on general education. To fill this gap and provide a richer picture of VET perceptions in Europe suitable to inform VET policy-making, Cedefop launched its first-ever opinion survey.

A total of 35 646 face-to-face interviews with Member State citizens were conducted. The survey provides an unprecedented insight into EU citizens’ opinions on awareness, attractiveness, experience and effectiveness of vocational education and training in the EU. Given the heterogeneity and variety of VET within and across Member States, the scope of the survey is mainly focused on initial vocational training (IVET) at upper secondary level.

The survey covers the 28 Member States of the European Union, with a total of 35 646 respondents from different social and demographic groups, aged 15 or older.
