In his inaugural speech at a seminar organised by the Institute for Social and Economic Policy Education (ISWA) in Berlin, Cedefop Director James Calleja said that in today's economic climate, 'businesses should be considered shareholders in vocational training and an integral part of the skills formation process.'
Work has started to transform the EU Skills Panorama website to provide a more comprehensive and user-friendly central access point for information and intelligence on skill needs in occupations and sectors across Europe.
‘Youths should be empowered to guarantee their own employment through education and training in a lifelong learning context,’ said Cedefop Director James Calleja addressing a high-level conference on the role of the Regions in the implementation of the youth guarantee, in Kavala, Greece.
The World Economic Forum has just published a paper on the issue of skill mismatch, to which Cedefop contributed substantially.
Cedefop Deputy Director Christian Lettmayr presented the Centre’s latest skill forecast and employer survey pilot at a conference co-organised by the European centre of employers and enterprises providing public services (CEEP) and the European federation of education employers (EFEE) on 24 January in Brussels.

Cedefop's Steve Bainbridge took part in a debate on the subject organised by The Economist in Athens. He argued that 'in response to a more demanding world, more young people than ever before are preparing themselves through learning.'
