The Ministers of Education of the member states of the European Union and candidate countries are invited to participate in the Informal Meeting of Education Ministers.
During the meeting, the Ministers will have the opportunity to exchange views and good practices on the role of education and training regarding the economical development of the European countries and the personal welfare of the European citizens. In addition, the issue of literacy will be explored during the meeting, efficient investment in education and exchange of good practices.
Many young people in Europe lack basic literacy skills, a fact which hinders their employability and may lead to social exclusion. The Presidency will promote the adoption of Council Conclusions on the issue of literacy, seeking to tackle illiteracy by providing qualitative education and training.
