On 11 March 2021, the European Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET) national reference point affiliated to the State Institute of Vocational Education (ŠIOV) organised, in cooperation with the European Commission, the online peer learning activity ‘Peer review – An instrument supporting quality assurance in VET’. The conference participants included a representative of the European Commission, representatives of other EQAVET national reference points, as well as foreign and domestic experts.
Digital skills are in high demand in the labour market and required for jobs in all sectors and companies. In response to this increased demand, the Public Employment Service (ADEM) launched in March 2021 the ‘Youth eAcademy’ programme, offering digital training courses to young jobseekers.

A new regulation on workplace learning in Iceland has been approved and will take effect on 1 August 2021, as part of a comprehensive reform of the Icelandic VET system.
According to a report published in March 2021 on female participation in VET, Ireland has one of the highest female VET participation rates in Europe (higher than 60% of the total enrolment rate in many education sectors). The report is entitled ‘women in further education and training (FET)’ and was published along a magazine celebrating the 1 000th female apprentice, and sharing real-life stories of women choosing VET.
In Finland, the minimum school leaving age is being increased from 16 to 18 years, in accordance with legislation that will come into force in August 2021. It will first apply to learners whose compulsory education under the current provisions will end in 2021.
Vocational packages were introduced in 2018 to help young people find their way from education and out into the labour market. A recent survey conducted by the National Agency for Education has shown that, two years later, these packages are well integrated and both in demand among students and widely offered in schools across Sweden.
Workshop- and craft-laboratories are apprenticeship programmes (Escuelas Taller, Talleres de Empleo y Casas de Oficios) for unemployed people combining learning in a real working environment with employment.
