Thirteen years teaching in further education, followed by a number of years as training development manager at the London Stock Exchange. This included managing the development of a major training programme for the UK securities industry. Work at the University of Surrey has included the management of a range of programmes including an MSc in Interactive Training Systems, a Postgraduate Certificate in the Education of Adults and the BSc in Work Based Learning.

David has provided consultancy services in a range of areas from executive coaching to e-learning development for organisations including Toshiba, BP UK Oil, Total Fina, the OECD and the Civil Service
Research interests include leadership, work-related learning (primarily coaching and mentoring), and interactive communications technology in learning (particularly in work-related settings). The latter has included European research work in e-learning for Cedefop (the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training).
