The Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs in cooperation with competent bodies (e.g. the General Secretariat for Vocational Education, Training, Lifelong Learning & Youth and the General Secretariat for Primary, Secondary Education and Special Education), announced the first National Skills Competition 2023. Participation in the contest has prerequisites: only candidates from specific specialities may participate, their age and grades will also be taken into account, and they need sufficient mastery of the English language. Candidates will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee, and three of them will form the national delegation which will represent the country in the ‘8th European Skills Competition EuroSkills 2023’, in the Polish city of Gdańsk, between 5 and 10 September 2023.
WorldSkills Europe/EuroSkills competition
WorldSkills Europe promotes vocational, technological-oriented education and training across Europe and works closely with young people, educators/trainers, governments, and companies to contribute to a skilled workforce and the discovery of talented future professionals. In the EuroSkills competition, which takes place every 2 years, hundreds of young people under the age of 25 from European countries come together to compete for a chance to become the best in Europe in their chosen profession.
Each candidate can demonstrate his/her talent and skills in his/her speciality. During the competitive process, candidates will be asked to demonstrate skills relevant to their respective speciality.
The Greek WorldSkills competition
The Greek WorldSkills competition is intended for VET students of specific IVET specialities and age groups: candidates should be 17 years old or younger than 25 by 5 September 2023). More specifically, regarding the speciality ‘Electrical systems, installations and networks technician’, only 3rd grade EPAL (upper secondary IVET schools) students may participate, as well as those from the Sivitanidio Public School of Arts and Vocations. With regard to the specialities of ‘Technician of IT applications (Multimedia/web designer-developer/video games)’ and ‘Technician of mechatronics’ only 4th semester students from Public Vocational Training Institutes (IEK) (as well as students from the Sivitanidio Public School of Arts and Vocations) can participate in the competition.
Students’ grades and a good knowledge of the English language are prerequisites for their participation. Participants will be assessed by an Evaluation Committee, which will grant three winners (one from each speciality) the right of becoming a member of the national delegation. All participants will receive honourable mentions, while the first in each speciality will receive prizes and represent the country in the European Competition.
The successful candidates will be trained – after the end of the national competition – for their participation in the European competition by specialised experts. The Bodosaki Foundation will cover all expenses (from registration at the World Skills Europe Organisation, to the organisation of the national competition and the travel and accommodation expenses of the national delegation).
