In a two year period (2014-15), 42 sectoral practical training centres (sektoriniai praktinio mokymo centrai, SPTCs) were established in Lithuania. Centres are supplied with state-of-the-art technological equipment for practical training and work-based learning in vocational education and training (VET).

SPTCs were jointly funded through European structural funds and the national budget, at a total cost of EUR 118 million. Centres usually concentrate on a particular sector of the economy. Most SPTCs were established for training in agriculture, engineering, energetics, transport, motor vehicle repair, wholesale and retail trade services, construction, hotels and restaurants, beauty services and food production. One SPTC per sector is devoted to railway transport, fishery, wood and furniture, and textile.

The SPTCs have been established in selected VET institutions. The services of the centres are also available for students from other VET institutions in the region, general secondary education, university and college students, company employees and teachers training.
