The national project Formation of qualifications and development of modular vocational education and training (VET) (Kvalifikacijų formavimas ir modulinio profesinio mokymo sistemos kūrimas), launched in 2010, has now entered its final phase.
Its main outcome will be 60 modular programmes for the most popular VET qualifications. Most of these programmes have already been designed and passed for final assessment and endorsement.
They are composed of mandatory and optional modules, based on three types of module:
- induction module: for learners to acquaint themselves with professional activities and VET characteristics; also covers self-assessment of previously obtained competences with an opportunity for validating certain competences;
- modules for obtaining competences: independent modules that can be completed autonomously;
- final module: developing skills for better integration into the labour market.
These VET programmes cover sectors including construction, electricity and energy, transport, hotels and restaurants. Two new programmes have also been initiated: Java programmer and renewable energy equipment installer.
The qualifications and VET development centre (Kvalifikacijų ir profesinio mokymo plėtros centras) has been project coordinator. All programmes have been designed by experts, coordinated by the Lithuanian confederation of industrialists, sectoral employers’ associations and VET providers.
Final drafts of the programmes have been endorsed by sectoral professional committees established at the qualifications and VET development centre. VET providers have been invited to volunteer in piloting the newly designed programmes. The first 11 will pilot in September 2015.
