Following previous discussions between Cedefop and Greek Deputy Minister of Education Dimitrios Baxevanakis a delegation of two government officials from the Greek Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, two Vocational Education and training (VET) experts and four VET teachers visited Cedefop premises on 22-23 February for a knowledge-sharing event.

Thematic areas covered during the first day, included VET developments in Greece, learning outcomes in apprenticeship programmes, tackling skill mismatch in Greece through policies and best practices for blending the worlds of work and education, quality assurance in VET with a focus on apprenticeship and key competences in VET. On the second day participants debated on various topics from ensuring better link between education and the world of work to selected findings of Cedefop’s thematic country review on apprenticeship in Greece.

The event had been a unique opportunity for Cedefop researchers to discuss and exchange experiences with Greek experts involved in an apprenticeships pilot project at Heraklion, Crete, as well as with VET teachers, representatives of the Heraklion Chamber and the Greek Ministry of Education.

Cedefop places particular emphasis in its cooperation with the Greek authorities having a consistently good relationship and providing technical support to the degree its remit and resources allow. The cooperation with the Greek Ministry of Education has largely contributed in shaping Greek VET policies, as they are defined in the recent Strategic Framework for Upgrading Vocational Education and Training.
