Cedefop Head of Department for VET Systems and Institutions Loukas Zahilas participated in an international workshop on ‘research centres, projects and synergies’ in Rethymno, Greece on 8 May.
The workshop was organised on the occasion of the inauguration of the Centre for Research & Studies (CRS) in Humanities, Social Sciences & Pedagogics of the University of Crete.
The CRS is the first University research centre in Greece dedicated to humanities, social sciences and pedagogics. It encompasses nine research units and runs various EU funded projects.
Mr Zahilas presented vocational education and training (VET) in a changing world and the role of Cedefop. He referred to Cedefop’s work in helping the European Commission, EU Member States and social partners to develop the right European VET policies. He also talked about the existing cooperation between Cedefop and the Greek authorities on qualifications, apprenticeship and skill needs.
Keynote speeches were delivered by University College London Professor Andy Green, Director of the ESRC-funded Research Centre LLAKES, Panos Liverakos, senior expert at the United Nations Development Programme, and Giorgos Alexakis, Vice-Governor for European and International Issues, Region of Crete.
Participants included the Director of CRS Professor Maria Kousi and Deputy Director Professor Nikos Papadakis, the workshop organiser.
CRS is an autonomous interdisciplinary unit supervised by the Senate of the University of Crete and its objective is to promote research in humanities, social sciences and pedagogics.
