ReferNet Spain participates in and supports awareness-raising actions organised in the Valencia region, promoting vocational education and training among students, teachers and companies.

In 2017, a series of Forum of opportunities for vocational training in the Valencia region was held in the region’s three provincial capital cities. The forums brought together students, education centres and companies with the aim of informing students on vocational paths easing access to the labour market and attracting more companies to engage in vocational education and training (VET) offered also in the dual modality (formación profesional –FP dual).

Bringing education and the business world closer

The second edition of the Forum, organised by the education authorities and partly funded by the European Social Fund, took place in December. ReferNet Spain presented the Cedefop European public opinion survey on vocational education and training in Europe with a special focus on national data for Spain.

Participating VET students provided insight into their motivation to enrol in, and expectations from, VET studies, and their views on the relevance of the skills acquired to skills in demand in the labour market.

The forums promoted sharing of good practices in dual VET in the region, including discussions on topics such as the impact of industry 4.0 on skills. To support employability and entrepreneurial skills, participants had the opportunity to participate in practical workshops on self-knowledge, public speaking, CV writing and role playing job interviews. They could submit their CV in a mailbox specifically for the purpose, and real job interviews were carried out offering students placement opportunities.

Events took place on different dates in Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia to achieve easier access and higher participation. Final attendance reached more than 2 500 VET students, 280 teachers, and 130 companies. In Valencia, the opening ceremony was chaired by the General Director of Vocational Training of the region, and the national ReferNet team hosted at the State Foundation for Training in Employment (Fundae).
