Developing lifelong learning

Cedefop actively supports the development of lifelong learning strategies at European and national level.

It monitors and reviews trends and policy developments related to lifelong guidance, validation of non-formal and informal learning, VET teachers and trainers, ageing workers and adult learning.

It formulates proposals for policy-making and promotes knowledge-sharing and exchange of practices in education and vocational training. This is done in the following 6 project areas: ##

1. Adult Learning

The Adult learning project monitors and reviews adult learning trends and policy developments with the focus on how workplace learning contributes to skills development.

2. Ageing Workers

The Ageing workers project aims to increase understanding of ageing and work through new research. It encourages evidence-based active ageing policies to respond to widespread population ageing in western societies.

3. Lifelong Guidance

The Lifelong guidance project reviews policy and strategy developments in lifelong guidance in the Member States. It identifies successful initiatives and formulates recommendations for future work at the European and national levels.

4. Validation of non-Formal and Informal Learning

The Validation project reviews trends and challenges in the field of Validation of Non-Formal and Informal Learning – i.e. learning taking place outside formal education and training bodies – and supports the development and implementation of validation methods and systems in Member States.

5. VET Teachers and Trainers

The VET Teachers and Trainers project monitors trends affecting the roles, competences and training of vocational teachers and trainers. It promotes knowledge-sharing between practitioners and decision-makers and formulates proposals on the professional development of VET teachers and trainers.

6. The Study Visits Programme

The Study Visits Programme is an EU programme for decision‑makers and specialists in education and vocational training. Cedefop coordinates the study visits programme at European level for the European Commission.
