Europass - Details
Europass is a portfolio of 5 documents to make European skills and qualifications clearly and easily understood on the labour market and in education and training.
What is Europass for?
It is designed to help citizens to:
- look for a job or enrol in education or training;
- make their skills and qualifications understood and recognised by employers, education and training;
- live and work anywhere in Europe.
How does it work?
Two documents are completed and updated online, with the help of examples and tutorials:
- the curriculum vitae (CV) also includes skills acquired outside education and training and in the workplace;
- the language passport gives a detailed description of language skills.
Three documents are issued at national level:
- the Europass mobility is a record of skills acquired during a stay in another European country to learn or train (placement, education programme, etc.);
- the certificate supplement describes the content of training programmes (knowledge and skills acquired, certification, level, legal framework); it complements the information included in official certificates;
- the diploma supplement is issued to graduates of higher education institutions. It describes the nature, level, context, content and status of the studies.
Cedefop and Europass
Cedefop designed and maintains the Europass Web site, available in 26 languages.
Since its launch in 2005, there have been more than 48.6 million visits to the Europass website and 38 million Europass curriculum vitae (CV) have either been completed on line or downloaded – an average of nearly 15 000 per day – which demonstrates the relevance of the initiative (state of play: March 2012).
Europass, the European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) will be made more coherent. This work helps to document, validate and certify learning outcomes.
