Germany: the new Recognition Act
Around 2.9 million people living in Germany have migrant backgrounds and acquired their highest vocational qualification in another country. Often, however, they are unable to find employment matching their qualification. Germany's new law to improve the assessment and recognition of professional qualifications acquired abroad aims to contribute to better and more uniform regulation.
Germany - Recognition in Germany
‘Recognition in Germany’ is the new information portal for the German government's Recognition Law. This portal provides up-to-date information on the legal basis and procedures for recognition of foreign professional qualifications. If you would like to have a professional qualification acquired abroad recognised in Germany, you can use this portal to find the competent body and your local contact centre.
Italy - A new agreement on apprenticeship contracts
Youth unemployment rates in Italy are among the highest in the EU. In December 2010, 29 % of 15-24 year-olds were unemployed. In December 2010, Italy’s national statistics service, Istat, reported that while the overall rate of unemployment rose by 0.2 % from 2009 to 2010, the rise in youth unemployment was 12 times higher. The inactivity rate is increasing dramatically: 1 in 3 young people is not studying or working, which gives rise to several critical issues for demand and supply in the labour market.
Spain - Recognition of skills through work experience or non-formal training
The Minister of Education, Angel Gabilondo, and the Employment and Immigration Minister Valeriano Gomez, have recently released details of how the vocational qualification accreditation scheme will be developed for skills acquired through work experience or informal training channels (Programa Acredita). The Government has allocated EUR 59 million to this project and the autonomous communities will organise the first applications for the scheme to be rolled out from June this year.
Slovakia - New architecture of VET governance
In the 1990s, links between VET schools and enterprises were broken because of, the dramatic restructuring of the national economy after the collapse of the command economy. Old institutional relations were broken and new ones were hard to establish. In the 2000s, a gradual economic revival created a more positive environment for a revitalisation of the cooperation between schools and employers.
